The Sewell Mountain Sailing Association is pleased to announce the fourth annual Mountain Mama Hospice Regatta, celebrating and supporting Hospice of Southern West Virginia.

The Aug. 23-24 event on Summersville Lake draws sailing enthusiasts to the Mountain State to help raise money to provide compassionate care to hundreds of people each year in their final days of life.

The regatta has raised more than $30,000 since 2011 for Hospice of Southern West Virginia, with sailboats of several sizes and classes competing, entrants from as far away as Florida and the Canadian province of Alberta.

While there is no fee for entry, sailors and onlookers are strongly encouraged to contribute to this worthy cause.

Hospice serves the needs of the terminally ill and their families. Hospice of Southern West Virginia services are provided primarily in the home, but may be carried out at long-term care facilities, personal care homes or at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.

This is a family-friendly event, well supported by local and regional businesses and community groups, with food, awards, music and raffles at the beach and picnic area near the Battle Run boat ramps.
