13th annual hospice regatta announced
Sewell Mountain Sailing Association and Hospice of Southern West Virginia are pleased to announce that the thirteenth Mountain Mama Hospice Regatta has been scheduled for Aug. 16-18, 2024 at Summersville Lake in Nicholas County, West Virginia.
The forthcoming Notice of Race will notify prospective competitors who have come previously from throughout West Virginia, from our neighboring states and from far beyond. We are planning for our best event yet, with more fun onshore for the landlubbers. Sailing Instructions, which may be amended just before a race to account for current weather and other factors, will provide essential details about the races and specific rules governing the competition.
The annual event at Summersville Lake has raised more than $100,000 since 2011, each year helping Hospice of Southern West Virginia to provide compassionate care to hundreds of people in their final days of life.
A flood in 2016 required cancellation of the annual event after devastating large and small communities in the West Virginia counties of Nicholas, Clay, Raleigh, Fayette, Summers, Greenbrier and Kanawha, among others. A global pandemic caused us to scale back in 2020 to a more subdued, but ultimately fun, Notta Regatta.
Sewell Mountain Sailing Association is a registered non-profit West Virginia corporation organized for educational and charitable purposes.
These races are governed by the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Rules of Sailing as amended by sailing instructions to be posted at least one month prior to the regatta.
We hope all our friends will recognize and support all sponsors and supporters whose contributions make it possible for us to keep this event going year after year.
